The British EmpireIn Age of Empires III, the British are an economic and naval power. Their Houses have been upgraded to Manor Houses, which cost more but are tougher. Every time one is build, a new Settler automatically pops out. Because of this, the British can concentrate on wood early and still get Settlers, if that is what they wish. While getting Settlers fast is a great bonus to start with, the British are also proficient in the livestock and plantation industries.
The British get to keep their unique unit from Age of Kings, the Longbowman. This archer has one of the longest ranges in the game and can destroy enemy infantry. The British also have a way to upgrade them to Imperial status, something that cannot be done with other archaic units. Their Musketeers are also tough, as one would expect. In later ages, the Redcoat Royal Guard upgrade is available for them. Another unique unit for the British is the Congreve Rocket. This replaces the Heavy Cannon in the Home City and Factory. Rockets deal extra damage to buildings.
The British Home City offers more Settlers than any other nation to ship to the New World. Its Harbor is filled with naval and mercenary cards. The Manufacturing Plant and Cathedral are poorer than normal, however. Their Military Academy has many artillery units, Hussars, Musketeer, and Longbowman shipments. The British resource crates and livestock shipments can also supplement their good economy. A well-balanced nation, the British are well suited for both beginners and experts to the game.
