The Dutch EmpireOne of the strangest economies in Age of Empires III belongs to the Dutch. Dutch Settlers cost 100 coin instead of food, and you can only make 50 of them. In return, you can build multiple Banks in your colony to get a trickle of coin. Banks are a wise investment for Dutch players because their civilization is often described as defensive and economic. Because their Settlers cost coin only, the Dutch put them on every resources at the beginning of the game. The Dutch also start the game with (and can train) an Envoy. Envoys are excellent at scouting the map.
The Dutch military is not the best in the game but it certainly can win games. The Dutch can train Skirmishers in the Colonial Age because they do not have access to any other ranged infantry. The Dutch seem to concentrate on defeating cavalry, since they have access to Pikemen, Halberdiers, and ranged cavalry. Their Dragoons have been replaced by the mighty Ruyters, who can deal extra damage to artillery as well as cavalry. The Ruyter become even more impressive in the Industrial Age, when they turn into Carabineers. The Dutch navy is aove average; they can train Fluyts instead of Frigates.
The Dutch Home City has many cards that relate to their banking services. They an increase their banks' build limit, hit points, coin gather rate, and lower their cost with only four cards. The Dutch also have decent Native, gathering rate, naval, and mercenary cards. The rest of the Home City is not very impressive. Most of their military cards relate to Halberdiers, Ruyters, and Artillery units. Their Trading Company lacks many cards that other civilization have.
