The Russian EmpireThe Russians can train some units in large groups for a reduced price. Their Settlers cost 270 food for a group of three. (Clicking once on the Settler button will train three at a time.) This property has several consequences for the Russians. On the good side, the Russians spend 10% less resources on their Settlers, and they train faster overall. On the other hand, if you have 1 or 2 population room left, you cannot train more Settlers. You also cannot have 50 Settlers without training 51 and killing one. Nevertheless, the fact that you save time and resources makes block training a good thing for the Russians.
They also can build Blockhouses, a combination of the Barracks and Outpost. Blockhouses are tougher than Barracks but there is a limit to how many you can build. With that said, any card that would have affected Barracks or Outposts will also affect the Blockhouse. Units trained from this building also come out in blocks. Halberdiers train in groups of four and Musketeers come in platoons of five. The last unit trained in the Blockhouse is the Strelet, a weak ranged infantry that costs 37.5 food and 10 wood per individual unit. Strelets come out in groups of ten and can be used to overwhelm the enemy with numbers. The Russian Stable has unique units as well. The Cossack, Oprichnik, and Cavalry Archer are available to the Russians.
The Russian Home City is the only one covered in snow. No Settlers can be shipped from it, but there are plenty of crates available. The Russian Military Academy is loaded with units and improvements. Every unique unit and plenty of artillery units can be shipped out to the New World. There is nothing particular about the other Home City buildings, except perhaps their navy which looks decent at first glance.
